Al-Sharqiya TV correspondent Saif Talal and cameraman Hassan al-Anbaki, were killed while returning from a reporting trip on Jan. 12, 2016. The men were en route to the Muqdadiyah area as part of an Iraqi general’s convoy, when their vehicle lagged behind. Masked militiamen stopped the journalists’ car, forced them to exit and proceeded to execute them. A source told Agence France-Presse that the men were killed in sight of a police checkpoint, but police did not intervene.
