Mexican journalist Gregorio Jiménez de la Cruz was found dead on Feb. 11, 2014 after he had been kidnapped by armed assailants one week earlier in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz. His body was found in an unmarked grave near the municipality of Las Choapas, 75 km southeast of Coatzacoalcos. Jiménez worked in Coatzacoalcos as a crime reporter for the publications NotiSUR and Liberal del Sur. He was kidnapped after dropping off his children at school on Feb. 5. Teresa de Jesús Hernández, owner of the bar El Mamey, was arrested in connection to de la Cruz’s murder. The journalist’s wife said that the woman had threatened de la Cruz with death after he reported on an October 2013 killing that took place in the bar.
