The International Press Institute (IPI) joined a seminar in Freiburg, Germany hosted by the broadcaster Radio Dreyeckland as part of the project Respect Words – Ethical Journalism in Media. The seminars are aimed at online, print, and broadcast journalists interested in discussing ethics, codes and regulations and the responsibilities of traditional and online media in the context of hate speech. IPI’s Scott Griffen delivered remarks on “Hate Speech in the Context of Press Freedom”.

This seminar is part of the project “Respect Words”, coordinated by EMA-RTV and including the Greek public broadcaster EPT, Radio Dreyeckland (Germany), Near FM (Ireland), Radio Popolare (Italy), Radio Student (Slovenia), Civil Radio (Hungary) and the International Press Institute.

Respect Words will also see the production of a set of ethical guidelines for journalists covering migration and minorities as well as a radio campaign aiming to put the guidelines into practice.
