Freelance photojournalist Taha Shawkat Al-Halou was killed on Aug. 27, 2016 while returning from covering airstrikes in the town of Daret Ezza, in Aleppo province. Formerly with the Daret Ezza Media Center, an opposition collective utilising social media, he died from a head injury he sustained in a missile strike by Syrian government forces that hit as he was riding a motorbike.
