Two unidentified gunmen shot Robert Chamwami Shalubuto on the evening of Dec. 26, 2014, in a bar in Goma. The assailants reportedly approached the table where Shalubuto was sitting with friends, opened fire and then exited the bar with a bag that contained his identity documents. Shalubuto, who had previously received threats, died from his injuries on the way to the hospital. He was a journalist for Congolese National Radio and Television (RTNC) for 17 years, covering news in both Swahili and English.
