Pedro Palma, 47, editor for Panorama Regional publication, was reportedly gunned down by a couple of men riding a motorcycle in front of his home on Feb. 13 in Rio de Janeiro’s southern town of Miguel Pereira.

According to Brazilian news site O Globo, Palma had recently received death threats linked to his paper’s coverage of a local mayor’s alleged misconduct in office.

This marked the second death of a journalist in Brazil in just one week and the third assault on a member of the press nationwide this year alone.
